Abstract

This community service activity aimed to strengthen students' quantitative research competencies through statistical data analysis using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The participants were 46 sixth- and eighth-semester students of Institut Al-Bahjah Cirebon who were preparing research proposals and undergraduate theses. The activity employed a participatory training approach combined with hands-on practice. The implementation consisted of needs assessment, pretest, delivery of research methodology and statistical analysis materials, SPSS practice, mentoring, posttest, and evaluation. Data were collected using pretest-posttest instruments, observation, and documentation. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, paired-samples t-test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed an increase in students' quantitative research competencies after the training. The mean pretest score was 76.74 (SD = 6.420), with scores ranging from 65 to 90, while the mean posttest score increased to 95.15 (SD = 5.613), with scores ranging from 87 to 100. The mean score increased by 18.41 points, equivalent to approximately 23.99% relative to the pretest mean. The Shapiro-Wilk test indicated that the difference scores were normally distributed (p = 0.229 > 0.05), allowing the use of a paired-samples t-test. The paired-samples t-test showed a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the mean N-Gain score was 0.7997, or 79.97%. These findings indicate that the training was associated with a substantial improvement in students' understanding of quantitative research and statistical data analysis. The integration of methodological concepts, SPSS practice, and direct mentoring provided students with opportunities to connect research concepts with statistical analysis procedures.
